Benefits & Financial Support

Benefits you receive for your child will continue if your child continues to study full time non-advanced study. 

The government will write to you in the summer after Year 11 to find out what your child’s plans are.

You may be entitled to some benefits for longer if a young person cannot attend college or training, this is called a temporary break in learning.

If a young person finds themselves not being in education, training or employment you can register and receive support from The Youth Employability Service and apply for Child Benefit Extension period.

Some of the benefits you may receive could include:

  • Child Benefit 
  • Child Tax Credit 
  • Additional amounts for a dependent child or young person paid with Universal Credit 
  • Additional amounts for a dependent child or young person paid with Guarantee Pension Credit
  • Additional amounts included in the assessment of any Housing Benefit and Council Tax support you claim.
